Vegetable Garden

Here at Little Hands we constantly try to come up with new and creative ways to teach the children about health and nutrition. An example of this was when the two Montessori classes learnt all about healthy vegetables through a theme vegetable garden.

Here is their account:

In spring we discuss how seeds are sown and vegetables grow. We discuss where vegetables come from and learn the life cycle of plants.

We also talked about whether plants grow under or over the ground.

As a Fun Friday activity we brought in a selection of vegetables to prepare and taste.

Here we had: 

• Lettuce
• Carrots
• Cucumber
• Tomatoes
• Celery
•  

The children each got a job- to wash the veggies, peel carrots, slice veggies. Most importantly we had taste time.

There were some funny faces, some vegetables appealed more than the others but everyone tried at least one thing and it was another successful taste experience.

Here are two songs that we did in circle time to reinforce the learning which the children enjoyed.
